Practice Makes Perfect

Have you ever wondered what it is like to step on the football field for game day? The feeling is indescribable; heart racing, thinking about all the little things that relate to the game, anxious to finally hit someone on another team and not the same people you see every day at practice! Well in order to step on that field it all starts at practice. After the Howard Payne game we had a bye week which meant a full two weeks of practice before our next contest against Rhodes. Every practice is a challenge; you face ups and downs in each practice that essentially prepare you for the ups and downs of an actual game. Every drill, sprint and tackle during practice is designed to prepare you for Saturdays. Our two weeks of practice were full of exciting ups, chilling downs, and a heavy dose of inconsistency. We had moments were we looked like a championship team yet lost some key players due to injury during our two weeks off. After a full two weeks of intense practices it was game day! Little did we know, it would be game if extreme ups and downs.

Consistency is what Coach Mohr preaches to us every day and unfortunately on Saturday we were the polar opposite of consistent. Another motto that coach always uses is "you practice how you play," On Saturday that statement was true. Coming in heavily favored against Rhodes we played inconsistent football and lost the game. Despite a late effort to lead us back in the game from Quarterback Pat Dickinson, it was too late and we had to face defeat.

One thing that can be guaranteed for our next game on Saturday afternoon against Millsap’s will be, the trinity football team had their best week of practice all season and were consistent. We have the potential to win the SCAC championship and we guarantee that we will work harder than ever before to make sure we do not lose another game this season!
