"We Do Not Lose at Home!"

The TU football team reported to campus on August 10th with one thing on their minds, September 4th. Why is this you ask? It was the date of our home opener against Howard Payne University underneath the lights of E.M Stevens Field. However, we faced a long road over those 3 weeks to get to that game. Going through long days of meetings, practice and workouts that kept us occupied with football from 8 A.M to 9 P.M pretty much every day! Going to practice in the 100+ degree heat, two a days, SUPER grinders and the dreaded 40 test. We worked our butts off as a team to prepare for the season and our first game. Although we worked hard during training camp there were a few things that we did as a team that helped us gel together and become more than just a bunch of people playing football, we became brothers. From singing a song on the singing chair in the cafeteria in front of the whole team, coaches and a few other people who happened to be on campus at the time to freshmen and senior skits, we grew as a family. The TU football team is the largest frat on the campus. After all the blood, sweat and tears that we put into our 26 practices prior to our first game, Game day finally came. Going into our first game of the season there were a few streaks and traditions that were brought up to the team, including 18 straight years that the Tigers have won their season opener, the fact that we have lost 1 game at home in the past 15 years and also our main goal for the season, to win the SCAC! The game on Saturday night was one of the most intense and overall most enjoyable games I have ever been a part of. After a hard fought 60 minutes that ended with a 31-31 tie it was off to overtime. One overtime however would prove not to be enough as the Tigers came away with the 40-34 victory in the second overtime following Pat Granchellis game winning Touchdown. Coach Mohr told the team at halftime that we would find out what kind of football team we were going to have this season, and this game clearly shows we have a team that will never quit. Our next game is September 18 at 6 P.M v Rhodes College!
